About Us
Introduction:
Welcome to Profdig.com. Probably the best way to start is to introduce myself, my name is Kenneth Curtis and I'm an assistant professor at the American University in Dubai. I've been in Dubai at AUD for over two years and have been teaching for the last five. This site is an attempt to create a community that services the educational community in ways that no other site has up until now. The site is broken into three sections, News, Blogs, and Search Engine. Each is a standalone service that is geared to be a site unto itself. This is important in that each section will draw in different types of people, some looking for information on professors, some maybe to read the latest news, and some to post to their blog. These people may come for a purpose, but will most likely use our site's other features, and in doing so, have expanded all sections.

Vision:
The future is bright, and there is nothing stopping us from adding extra features to profdig. Just some of the ideas being considered are a career resource center, employment listings, virtual classrooms, tutorials, and much more. Our main goal is to create a flourishing community of educated people to network, discuss, and interact online.

Profblog: Free Blog
Overview:
Profdig's free blog is more than a free blog, it's a web presence for anyone in the educational community. It is completely free and can be customized with dozens of different features, skins, and modules. Based on the popular blog software, b2evolution, it is rugged and secure.
How it works:
It's quite simple really, all you need to do is go to profblog and click on create blog. You will be prompted to answer some basic questions about the name of your blog, your email address, and choice of password. Once your email has been validated, you can log in and choose a skin for your blog and start customizing. It really will only take about five minutes before you've got a new web site and publishing your articles, notes, or family pictures.

News
Overview:
The news section of Profdig is best described as a new aggregate service. This means that most of the news that you see is posted from like minded individuals because they believed it had value to others. Right now, we collect the news, give you a place to discuss it, and to vote on it. Hopefully we will soon have writers writing for us about issues that matter to you.
How it works:
If during you surfing through the WWW you stumble onto an article that you believe other educators would find interesting, you simply submit it to Profdig.com. Once it's been submitted, the story or article gets put into a queue where it waits to receive enough votes to make it to the published news section.

Search Engine:
Overview:
The search engine is a dynamic idea that initially started the long road to creating this site. In fact, the name profdig, is short professor-dig, it was a "catchy" way to suggest that we dug through the World Wide Web for all the personal sites of professors. Have you ever searched for professor on Google? It seems that it's nearly impossible to get any relevant results, what you do get is mostly sites offering degrees. Our search engine is exclusive to the educational community and because of this, we don't allow any site that hasn't been found to be a personal site of a professor or educator, a resource for educators or education, or institutions.
How it works:
It's somewhat simple. We add sites that either are a resource to educational professionals, a personal sites of teachers or professors, or institutions and allow you the ability to browse or search. This feature will take some time to complete but when it's done it will be one of the most useful additions to the WWW in some time to those of us in Academia.

Integration:
This is where profdig really shines. When conceiving this site it was important that all sections can come together to build a sense of community.
